You scored as PoliticalScience/Philosophy, You should strongly consider majoring (or minoring) in Political Science, Philosophy, or related majors (e.g., Criminal Justice, Economics, Geography, History, International Business, Journalism, Sociology, Urban Studies, Women's Studies).

It is possible that the best major for you is your 2nd, 3rd, or even 5th listed category, so be sure to consider ALL majors in your OTHER high scoring categories (below). You may score high in a category you didnt think you would--it is possible that a great major for you is something you once dismissed as not for you. The right major for you will be something 1) you love and enjoy and 2) are really great at it.

Consider adding a minor or double majoring to make yourself standout and to combine your interests. Psychology, Sociology, Business Management, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, and Arabic are all great minors for PoliSci majors. Please post your results in your myspace/blog/journal.

* * * From the City of Angels (Nicolas Cage-Seth & Meg Ryan-Maggie) * * *

(Btw, Cassiel is another angel)

Cassiel:

[Seth], if you had known this was going to happen...

[that Maggie was going to die]

...would you have done it? [sacrificed being an immortal angel to become human]

Seth:

I would rather have had...

...one breath of her hair...

...one kiss of her mouth...

...one touch of her hand...

...than an eternity without it.

One.

Inside the main mall, we tried getting registered but they said they already ran out of passports but will be there again tomorrow. I highly doubt that they will be continuing tomorrow because http://www.nowpossible.ph/ (as of February 3, 2007) says that the event is for one day only. Anyway, it's a good thing Paco and I weren't one of the people willing to wait in line for four hours just for the possibility of winning a jacket, a shopping bag or a helicopter ride. ;)

We asked around the area if they were selling Vista and much to our surprise, they weren't. Why the hell spend hundreds of thousands* of pesos promoting Windows Vista when you won't be selling it directly in the first place? It just did not make sense to me or Paco.

What we were given was a price list of the boxed Windows Vista available for sale in some computer stores in Mall of Asia. It read as follows:

Windows Vista Ultimate English International DVD - 26,430.00
Windows Vista Business English International DVD - PhP 19,710.00
Windows Vista Home Premium English International DVD - 15,830.00
Windows Vista Home Basic English International DVD - PhP 13,360.00
Office 2007 Win32 English CD - PhP 26,990.00
Office Pro 2007 Win32 English International CD - PhP 33,730.00
Office Home and Student 2007 Win32 English CD - PhP 9,960.00

So, as you can see, the cheapest version of the Vista is the Home Basic edition, which costs 15,830.00 pesos. Paco wanted the Business edition because he plans to use it for Software Development and according to him, Home Basic or Home Premium just won't cut it. However, he wasn't going to blow almost 20,000 pesos just for it, even if he wanted a licensed copy.

Paco's a smart guy who did his research. He found out online that the price of the OEM version (just the unboxed, shrinkwrapped DVD) of Windows Vista Business when converted from US Dollars to Philippine Pesos was only 10,000. Now, the problem is, most of the computer stores carried only the boxed version of Windows Vista. Those that did have the OEM version were only willing to sell it with a new PC.

- - -

Back in 1995, my dad was only able to get a licensed copy of the OEM version of Windows 95 when he bought a new PC. It says so on the Original Windows CD itself:
For Distribution Only with a New PC."

- - -

Obviously, this is a marketing ploy. The computer shops just want to sell more computers by forcing those who want Vista to buy a new PC (Hey, the Ultimate Edition of Vista costs more than a complete PC package bundled with Vista Home Basic, so it seems like a pretty enticing offer). But Paco's PC already meets the system requirements of Windows Vista. So, why buy a whole PC when all you really need is the OS?

Paco and I have insane determination so we don't give up after visiting 95% of the computer stores. Eventually, we found a tiny computer store willing to sell the OEM version of Windows Vista minus the PC. This brought down the price considerably.

From almost 20,000 pesos (19,710.00 to be exact), it fell to about half. I did some haggling and brought down the price to 8,500. Paco was thrilled. Immediately after taking the money out of the ATM, he went to the store to buy it. I believe he's one of the first independent professionals (i.e. not part of a large company) in the Philippines to own a legit copy of the Business Edition of Vista.

*This one day event costs hundreds of thousands when you factor in the wages of all the hired event staff for the day, the rental fees SM charges, the laptops, the giveaways, the prizes in the raffle, the talent fees of Archie Alemania and Nancy Castiglione and all other overhead expenses.

How You Life Your Life

You seem to be straight forward, but you keep a lot inside.
You say whatever is on your mind. Other people's reactions don't phase you.
You tend to have one best friend you hang with, as opposed to many aquaintences.

"Good friends are those who care without hesitations, remember without limitation, and love even without communication."

"True friends will see you through, believe in the things you want to do, feel happy when your dreams come true. Best of all, they don't judge you, they accept you because you are you."

“Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

“Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity.”

"Love has its time, season and own reason. You can't ask it to stay, you can only embrace it as it comes and be glad for a moment in your life that it was yours."

Well, at least one has been done.

I was able to personally deliver it to her yesterday night. We met only very briefly but she didn't make a big issue about meeting only for a short while and that's good. :)

The expression on her face and her reaction was priceless. That makes it all worth the effort.

Perhaps this weekend, we will get to watch it together... who knows? Expect the unexpected. :D

21 January 2007

My sister got me to drive her to RFM today for her TOSP meeting. Valedictorian, Summa cum laude, a near perfect Master's Degree GPA (I heard Ateneo doesn't give out titles for Master's Degrees but other schools like UST do), Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines and numerous other academic achievements which I will not look up just to list here and yet I still have to drive her around. At least this means that if I tend to be a failure in my field, I've got a career as a chauffeur ahead of me. ;)

While trimming my nails, I cut too far and caused one of my toes to bleed. After treating the wound, I bandaged it and drove off to MoA. This caused me to run a little late.

The trip would have been normal if not for the MMDA officer who clearly tried to get me to offer him a bribe. I was at least 50 feet away from the U-turn slot in EDSA when I switched lanes. He accused me of swerving but I held my ground and told him that I did not swerve. I told him that I challenge his claim and we could take it to court if he wanted. He tried to bluff me by saying bring it on. Then I showed him a picture of my wife in maternity clothes (which was really Julie in her very loose duty uniform) and said that if he caused me to miss my wife giving birth, I'd sue him for harassment. He then changed his demeanor and suddenly said that he could just let it go because it was no big deal. With that, I drove away, careful to change langes at least 100 feet from the next U-Turn slot.

Surprisingly the South Parking at MoA was nearly empty. It was already 2 PM and there were only about a dozen cars inside and if you've been there before, you'd know that it can fit at least two hundred cars easily.

Xie and Julie messaged me earlier that they'd be at the Ice Skating rink. Once I learned how to get there, I took a good look at it and now I have a better idea of what Jewel sent me via MMS (despite this being my third visit to Mall of Asia, I never noticed the rink before).

It took me about two minutes to find them because I had no idea they'd be changing into casual clothes. They were near the center spot outside of the rink. I didn't recognize Julie but I was able to identify Xie. :)

I sat down beside Julie but I didn't get to deliver the shock I intended. She said that she was disappointed that it didn't take me longer to find them and that the two of them intentionally changed clothes just to make them harder to find. :D

Xie was having sour gummy worms and Julie was sucking on a lollipop (Julie should be banned from having lollipops for obvious reasons). Much as I wanted to partake in what I was being offered (the candy), I said I couldn't if I wanted to make it to April 1. ;)

Xie suggested that we see Eragon and Julie also wanted it so we got tickets for the three o'clock screening. We had a little time to kill so we spent it taking goofy pictures and videos. Right before going to Cinema 3, I grabbed one burger (Xie knows how painful this is for me) and a bottle of water.

As we were walking, Julie displayed her cute little biceps. She said she plans to hit the gym to further firm up. Julie has an hourglass figure (Xie said this and I agree). If I were to guess what her vital statistics are, I'd say it's 34-24-34. My point is if she does hit the gym consistently, she should get some amazing results. I'm talking sculpted abs, a v-shaped back, baseball-sized shoulders and jaw-dropping legs here. She might be good enough to enter into either a bodybuilding\fitness\figure competition. I'm fascinated by naturally muscular men and women and I'm just stating my observation here. If you think that makes me gay or a freak, I don't give a ****. ;)

Even before Xie and Julie got to MoA, Xie was already having a headache. Despite numerous attempts to get Xie to take a headache tablet, I could not get her to do so. I personally can't take a headache as long as she did and would probably resort to popping an Advil if my headache doesn't go away after an hour. She said she just needed some water so I told her she could drink from my bottle, assuming she doesn't sue me if she contracts any disease. ;)

The movie was going to start at 3:30 and we queued at 3:15. At that time there were about 50 people ahead of us. Xie tried to buy a bottle of water but the line at the popcorn booth was also long and our line @ Cinema 3 was already moving. So, Xie sucked it in and said she'd just buy once we had seats. Julie tried to get water for Xie but also encountered a terribly long line. So, I told Xie again to just drink from my bottle.

Julie kept on texting inside the theatre to the point that she wasn't able to watch properly anymore so I blocked her phone's screen with my banana hands and told her to focus. She did the same thing to me when I read one message, lol. :D

* * * Eragon Mini-Review * * *

I have not yet read Christopher Paolini's book so I can't compare it with the movie. However, I can say that it lacks character development and has many things that I've already seen before (damsel in distress, an evil king sending an incompetent minion to do his bidding, etc). I would have loved to see Brom's character (Jeremy Irons) have flashbacks of when he, too, was a dragon rider. (Perhaps, like Victor in Underworld, they're saving the dead character's history for the sequel?) That said, I still enjoyed the movie's action scenes and the occasional use of magic. If I can say three positive things, it would be that Saphira, the 3D dragon, was wonderfully animated, the ancient elven words sounded cool (e.g. 'brisingr' for fire) and that Sienna Guillory looked very young and beautiful (considering she's turning 32 this March). Then again, I'm no movie critic so I could be completely off.

* * * End of Eragon Mini-Review * * *

Earlier, when I told Xie that I could lift her with one hand, she said I should try lifting her while she's attached to another person. I said no problem; She could hug Julie while I lifted them both off the ground. To make good on my word, I asked Xie and Julie to hug each other and while they were conjoined, I was able to lift them at least twelve inches off the ground. Unfortunately, and this came from Julie herself, their chests pressed against each other a bit too hard and it hurt a little; Julie said that next time, their chests should be alternately arranged (I'm not kidding, she really said this in the vernacular) to minimize discomfort. Well, I'll stick to the one-arm person carry to be safe.

Julie was only 6 stickers away from her planner so to help her out and extend her stay a little, Xie and I each bought a drink at Starbucks. The first one was overcrowded so we bought at the branch near iMAX. Thanks to some psychological manipulation by Xie, we were able to get Julie's two stickers without buying the required drinks (way to go, Xie! :). I had a Java Chip and Xie purchased a Caramel Frappucino.

We walked Julie to the station because she said she really had to go. Once she got a ride, Xie and I went back inside MoA where I reloaded my phone. In the space between buildings, we sat on one of the benches and while sipping coffee. It was starting to get dark so I suggested we trek to Blue Wave (where Xie was parked) and grab some dinner.

The walk was enjoyable. Xie gave me a running commentary about the sights we saw (i.e. the huge globe, the SM buildings A-F and what they were used for) and said that Jewel and I should meet up at MoA sometime. I failed to mention to her (or maybe I did already?) that on December 28, 2006, the first time I went to MoA, Jewel was also there. It's just that our paths did not cross the whole time.

Inside KFC, Xie said that the Orange Chicken looked yummy so I got that for her and I got myself a burger (again, this pains me but I must keep my calories down). I'm happy when Xie eats at least twice in a span of six hours because she usually does not. Xie told me a few stories that almost brought me to tears (fortunately, I was able to keep my eyes from watering, though I felt really sad at the end). I'm grateful that she shared those stories with me because I learned a lot.

When our bellies were filled, we walked about 30 steps to get to Xie's car (it was parked right in front of KFC). I was amazed at her multitasking abilities. She was singing, adjusting the airconditioner, fiddling with the stereo, listening to her iPod all while backing out of the parking lot and driving. I have to admit, I am not capable of that. If I tried, I'd probably bump the car. :D

I told Xie to park first because I need to use the john thanks to the Java Chip I just had. We had fun locating the nearest comfort room. We ran (yes, we literally ran) up six flights of stairs (three floors) but didn't find anything near so we crossed over to the next building where we found one near the entrance. It was unexpected exercise but it was good because at least the caffeine in my blood found an outlet.

After using the john, we went back to the parking lot and I followed her lead going to LPC. Some bozos actually tried to squeeze inside the narrow space between our cars (well, technically she's driving a car and I'm driving a light truck) but they were unsuccessful. :D While driving side by side along Coastal Road, we looked at each other and "The Fast and the Furious" came to mind. :D

I followed her all the way to her house, had a glass of water and said goodbye. Casimiro was not as painful this time around. :)

* * *

I wonder though, if Xie and I were to jog around the village, who would get exhausted first? That's a question I'd like to know the answer to sometime. :)
